Argentina - Sustainable Communities

This past December, I had the privilege of being able to spend some time with the non-profit Fundación Íconos in Cordoba and Buenos Aires, Argentina - these are the photographs from my amazing time with them. Fundación Íconos works with the mission of providing comprehensive healthcare to people at risk and socially vulnerable through the formation of sustained support links.  They are able to help communities become self-sustaining by working with them to develop housing, medical, and daycare systems within isolated communities.

This amazing model aims to remove the reliance on government assistance to facilitate resources and provides isolated communities the means of educating and caring for themselves. When the nearest hospital and large town is hours away, these sustainable care models are the best ways to ensure communities feel supported and protected. Check out their social links to learn more about them and ways to support their work.

We also were able to stop by the 3C Construcción Ecológica site where they are working to build homes out of used plastic bottles. In cases of the communities that Fundacion Iconos works with because they are so isolated, it’s often hard to not rely on plastic products. This in return creates a lot of plastic waste with no proper recycling facility to dispose of it. The solution? Shove plastic into a larger plastic bottle to create a durable ‘brick’. They then use these bricks to create beautiful homes. Talk about knocking two birds with one stone - or in this case, a brick.

3C Construcción also works with males within the communities who are at risk of being impacted by addiction and mental health issues. Unfortunately in poverty-stricken communities, it is often likely the males of the communities will develop a form of addiction without the proper resources to get treatment. 3C Construcción works to provide housing, resources, and employment by working on eco-friendly houses. If you want to learn more about the amazing work they’re doing, you can check out their website here.
